Top 7 most anticipated best horror games of 2022

We will not tire of repeating that the horror genre is not in its best shape. It's all to blame for gamers who have forgotten how to be afraid, who are pretty tired of hackneyed clichés in plots and screamers, and the developers and publishers themselves, who are in no hurry to invest in a genre that is difficult to monetize. However, next year we will have some scary games.

Dying light 2 stay human

  • Release date: February 4, 2022
  • Developer: Techland
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch

Sandbox zombie, albeit a stretch, but you can still record horror. If players deftly rush around the city in the daytime, exercising in parkour and breaking the skulls of zombies wandering back and forth with weighty objects, then at sunset, Dying Light 2 makes a 180-degree turn, turning hunters into victims and setting especially ferocious monsters on people. Certain types of Infected can give players a head start in agility and are equally adept at climbing buildings.

Ordinary zombies also become more aggressive and elegant at night, so if a player armed with one machete during the day could deal with a whole mob of infected, at night, two or three mutants can easily repulse his desired hero. For the project's fate, the development story is not very calm, but there are still hopes for a sensible sequel.

Evil Dead: The Game

  • Release date: February 2022
  • Developer: Saber Interactive
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch

Cooperative horror from the authors of World War Z for PC and consoles in the universe of "Evil Dead" - only these two facts for many should be enough to pay attention to the project. The notorious Bruce Campbell, who played the role of Ash in the original film franchise, also takes a direct part in the work on the game.

The authors promise locations familiar to fans of "Evil Dead", as well as an extensive arsenal, including the iconic chainsaw, with which you can cut dead dyes into ribbons. And in addition to the co-op, Evil Dead: The Game will also bring a competitive multiplayer mode, where you can play the role of an evil demon yourself.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

  • Release date: 2022
  • Developer: Tango Gameworks
  • Platforms: PC, PS5

Another project that at first glance does not fall into the category of horror films, but with clearly guessed features of the Japanese urban legend about the ghost of Teke Teke and the adaptation of Koji Suzuki's story "Dark Waters". Then, the authors of The Evil Within from Tango Gameworks, working on the game, definitely know a lot about horror films.

The plot of Ghostwire tells the story of a brave hero with supernatural abilities who has to cleanse the city of Tokyo from the invasion of evil spirits and reveal the secret of their origin. We are waiting for the maximum immersion in Asian horrors! And since the project is being developed not only for PC but also for PS5, the game will support all the bells and whistles of the Sony console controller, including tactile feedback and resistive triggers.

The Callisto protocol

  • Release date: 2022
  • Developer: Striking Distance Studios
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X | S

The game will take place in 2640, in the same world where the famous "battle royale" PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds occur. The main character of The Callisto Protocol is one of the prisoners of the Black Iron Prison, located on the moon of Jupiter called Callisto. Life behind bars is already not raspberry, so bloodthirsty aliens attack the prison here. The incident details are unknown, but all the threads lead to the correctional officer.

The development is carried out by the Striking Distance studio, founded by the notorious Glen Scofield - one of the creators of the legendary Dead Space. As Scofield himself says, the project's authors set themselves the goal of making "the scariest game on the next-generation platforms." Very ambitious plans. Let's see how the developers will back them up with deeds.

The outlast trials

  • Release date: 2022
  • Developer: Red Barrels
  • Platforms: PC

The Outlast Trials promises to plunge the player into a cruel world of pain, violence, and anger, making him a guinea pig in the brutal experiments of the Cold War, organized by the sinister Murkoff corporation. Test takers must put aside ethical and moral issues if they want even to get a chance to survive the tests they are about to experience.

The game is not a sequel to Outlast 2, but its action takes place in the universe of the famous horror dilogy. The authors themselves compare the structure and manner of the storytelling of The Outlast Trials with a television series. The release was supposed to happen before the end of 2021, but the pandemic has adjusted the developers' schedule. We are waiting for an unusual project in the foreseeable future.

Dead Space remake

  • Release date: Q4 2022
  • Developer: Motive Studios
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X | S

According to some reports, the studio Motive has been working on a remake of the original Dead Space for a year and a half. The authors promise significantly prettier graphics and many technical innovations that Visceral at one time could not implement on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

The remake promises to expand the storyline, reveal some of the characters better, and even teach the main character to speak. Fortunately, they are not going to turn Isaac into a chatterbox. In any case, the hero will enter into dialogues with other characters, not just mutter something incoherent under his breath, and only occasionally comment on scenes that would cause any reaction from any average person. We are waiting for a new look at the cult cosmo-horror closer to the end of the year.

Scorn

  • Release date: October 2022
  • Developer: Ebb Software
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X | S

Disgusting in terms of design, but from that even more curious horror, the main character finds himself on an unknown and very unfriendly to aliens planet. Local inhabitants have mastered biotechnology to perfection, and therefore all weapons and mechanisms here are literally alive and always ooze nasty mucus.

The authors of Scorn from the Serbian studio Ebb Software drew inspiration from the work of the legendary artist Hans Giger and the Polish photographer Zdzislav Beksiński, whose assignments are saturated with darkness, surrealism, and death. Development has been underway since 2013. The game has gone through several transfers and still hasn't received an exact release date, but Ebb Software promises to release it next October.
